Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch the Surface RT and Surface Pro with Wi-Fi connectivity only. The tabs would be launched without 3G or 4G-capable models.
In fact, the best-selling non-iPad tablet to date, the Kindle Fire, doesn’t come in a cellular-friendly form either. And in the tablet world in general, Wi-Fi only models still rule the sales charts — even when it comes to the iPad.
Microsoft knows that right now, Wi-Fi will get the job done just fine. It also helps keep costs down, which will allow Microsoft to be as competitive as possible on price with the Surface tablets.
Microsoft isn’t the only company planning to go this route. Even the Google Nexus Tablet that was launched has only Wi-Fi and no cellular connectivity.
